Working in Restaurants Is Hard. Waitressing Is Harder
Make our job easier, please.
From January to May this year I worked as a waiter in my younger sister’s bar/restaurant. I was responsible for welcoming customers, serving dishes and drinks, and cleaning the restaurant.
My aim wasn’t to earn money but to help my sister’s restaurant. She already took care of the brand, cash flow, and marketing for the place. During this time, I learned the harsh reality of working with delivery services.
The waiters are the face of the restaurant. When something goes wrong, they have to break the news and they are the ones who feel the customer’s pain. They’re there to help, but having a lot of guests doesn’t make the waiter’s job any easier. Especially when it’s your first time working in customer service.
Things every waiter wants you to know before you enter the restaurant.
Waiters don’t prepare your drinks or your food.
A restaurant works as a team. Unfortunately, the waiter is the face of all mistakes and misunderstandings. If you complain about how long your drinks take, you can be sure that the waiters will ask you the same thing and wait at the bar until they’ve finished.
